| In Regards to Electric Motors and Controls The president of Drive Systems, Inc. is James Shumberg. Mr. Shumberg has worked in the electric motor and control industry for over thirty-five years. He literally began as a floor sweeper in a large, independent, electric motor repair facility and then worked his way up as a parts cleaner, electric coil winder, motor winder, and eventually an electric motor mechanic. His first exposure to practical industrial electronics repair was in 1964 when the repair shop received for repair, a small Eaton "Adjusto-Speed" motor, with a vacuum tube based speed controller attached. Mr. Shumberg, with the only formal electronics training in the company, having completed one semester of high school electronics, was assigned the job. Using only a simple volt-ohm-meter and an operators’ manual, furnished by the customer, Mr. Shumberg traced the control circuit, identified a faulty component and repaired the control. The company then began to receive countless "Adjusto-Speed" motors for repair and Mr. Shumberg began his career in motor control. Following completion of his Bachelor’s degree in Texas, Mr. Shumberg moved to Ohio and began work as a Management Trainee and subsequent Assistant Forman for a large, international manufacturer of electric coils for motors, transformers, and magnets. Here he gained exposure to high voltage and medium voltage coil manufacturing and testing techniques. Mr. Shumberg now lives in Houston and spends much of his time developing electrical training and safety programs (introductory to advanced skill level), designing and supervising the installation of AC drive systems, PLC automation systems, and as a training seminar instructor. (Electrical Training USA) He has designed and manufactured special motors for nontypical applications for a wide range of horsepower and speeds, using "off-the-shelf" cores from various electric motor manufacturers. Many of these motors are reported still operating successfully after twenty years in service. Other designs and retrofits include, multi-motor slip compensating AC drive systems for very long conveyor control, specific service transformers, high speed (6000 RPM) AC drives and motors for machine tool applications, AC and DC extruder drives, zero speed, high torque DC motors and controls for machine tools, and various AC drive systems for fan and pump speed control. Mr. Shumberg’s wide background in petrochemical, paper, plastics, rubber, and the aggregate industries coupled with his in-depth working knowledge of electric motors and controls, affords him a unique ability to provide economical and practical motor and control solutions that are proven to work. Other Accomplishments and Capabilities Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Shumberg served as President in three companies advancing all three in the electric motor and controls industry. He is experienced in many areas of marketing, sales and sales management, production, and finance. While working as Vice-president in a gear manufacturing company , he created, organized, and staffed an electric motor and controls division. He has taken companies from manual bookkeeping systems to computerized double-entry accounting systems with computer tracking of sales, sales leads, and department performance tracking. His has in-depth computer programming experience with various xbase style programs, UNIX administration and shell scripting, HTML software, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and various spreadsheet programs. Mr. Shumberg built the computers that Drive Systems, Inc. is using. Most of the advertisements you see from the companies where he has worked, were completely authored and laid-out by him. His current projects include development of a WWW on-line service for sale and purchase of surplus electrical equipment. |
